The University of Arizona's efforts to expand its online offerings began in 2020 with the establishment of UAGC.

March 2020

The University of Arizona engages with Ashford University in due diligence. Non-disclosure agreements were signed in the due diligence phase because the University of Arizona was negotiating with Ashford's parent entity, Zovio Inc, a publicly traded company, and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission regulations required that the University of Arizona protect the confidentiality of discussions and limit communication.

July 2020

On July 29, 2020, The University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC) is established as an Arizona nonprofit corporation with the expectation that it would acquire the assets of Ashford University and operate as an independent and separately accredited online university.

November 2020

On November 11, 2020, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) approves the change of control and acquisition of Ashford University by UAGC.

December 2020 calendar date

On December 1, 2020, UAGC acquires the assets and operations of Ashford University and UAGC and enters into the Strategic Services Agreement under which Zovio provides OPM services for UAGC.

April 2021

UAGC receives an IRS determination letter dated April 8, 2021, recognizing its tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

July 2022

On July 31, 2022, UAGC acquires Zovio's OPM assets and the Strategic Services Agreement is terminated.

May 2023

UAGC accepts an invitation to join the National Association of Institutions for Military Education Services, underlining its commitment to delivering high quality postsecondary education programs to the military community.

Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) acts to approve the University of Arizona's proposed acquisition of UAGC.

On June 30, 2023, the University of Arizona acquires the assets and operations of UAGC and assumes certain liabilities of UAGC. UAGC becomes a business unit of the University of Arizona and continues operating as a separately accredited institution by WSCUC and separate Title IV institution of higher education with its own OPEID number.

On July 14, 2023, WSCUC removes its formal notice of concern regarding UAGC.

Nov 2023

The UAGC nursing program achieves a decade-long accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, effective until Dec. 31, 2033.

UAGC achieves the prestigious Quality Matters Online Learner Support Program Certification for all its online programs, becoming one of only 10 universities nationwide to meet the stringent criteria for this certification.

The Arizona Department of Veterans' Services officially recognizes UAGC as a Veteran Supportive Campus, certifying its commitment to providing essential support to student veterans, faculty and staff.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Under Secretary for Benefits Joshua Jacobs provides a letter dated March 18, 2024, affirming that UAGC does not pose a threat to veterans through violations of 38 U.S.C. § 3696, which addresses prohibition on certain advertising, sales, and enrollment practices.
